Title:     Public Lecture on The TOF-SIMS analytical technique

This presentation delivered by Dr. Elias Chatzitheodoridis from the National Technical University of Athens concerned the Time Of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry analytical technique: instruments, methods and its application in technology. This technology uses primary ions, created with special instruments called "ion guns", to produce a primary ion beam which bombards the surface of the samples with high energies.

Third year engineering students have attended a course via video conference as part of the Engineering Design module in collaboration with students from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. This presentation delivered by Prof. Gordana Popovic from Vienna Technical University  concerned the applications of micro and nano technology and relevant calls in the 7th Framework programme launched by the EU commission.
 
   
 
Title:    Value and Beauty of the German Design & Award Ceremony
           
Venue:  Faculty of Engineering, University of Malta
 
Date:    24th October 2008

This presentation was delivered by Prof. Peter Leibl from the Munich University of Applied Sciences. The presentation gave practical case studies, good processes and methods to design innovative products. The lecture was very well attended by people in academia and in industry.

Since 2004, IED Malta has been organizing a competition for the most innovative final year project in the mechanical engineering stream at the University of Malta. The three winners were announced and awarded their certificates and prizes. Click here for more details.
